THE ALEXANDER PATH
Hamilton Mausoleum in Glasgow, UK
Glasgow Institute of Architects GIA
International Competition
In collaboration with Enrique Flores Gámez
August 2020
The path will lead the visitors through a new way of experiencing the Hamilton mausoleum. The project connects
the actual landmark with its history and its environment.
The recovery of the main entrance shows the greatness and symmetry of the monument. The spherical space of the
mausoleum will be felt intensely with this new point of view. The human being becomes the center of this
magni!cent space.
The connection with the keeper’s cottage gives the guests the possibility to rediscover the history of this
monument. At the same time, it introduces us slightly into the dense and gloomy forest, passing from the light
and grandeur of the mausoleum to the everyday life of the house.
The Alexander path is a worm inserted to the roots of the place, connecting past and present, light and darkness,
history and nature.
